Name: Pottery of Protest II Exhibition
    Date: March 2, 2019
    Time: 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM CST
    Event Description:
Students and staff at the Lincoln Square Pottery Studio - Learning Center present their second Pottery of Protest exhibition. One year ago, LSPS-LC invited its members to vent their frustrations through clay. More than thirty pieces ended up gracing the studio’s pedestals. The exhibition drew large crowds, as well as an appetite to revisit the subject. A full year later, our students are again taking on topics that span from international to local issues. In 2018, Chicago artist Ann Cibulskis addressed the gun violence in Chicago. This year she hand-built a ceramic sculpture titled “16 Shots and a Cover-Up”. The piece places emphasis on the collusion between police officers, their supervisors, prosecutors and politicians’ concealment of the murder of teenager Laquan McDonald. Other work in this show takes on animal extinction, human rights violations and political corruption. Chicago artist and ceramic rabble-rouser Alan Lerner will be our honored judge this year. Lerner has taught at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Lillstreet Art Center and The Chicago Printmakers Collective. He has had a long and distinguished career as both a potter and printer. Many of his vessels include hand-made decals that speak of his dissatisfaction with politics and environmental degradation. Lerner will award medallions in several categories, including Human Rights, Peace and Conflict as well as Violence Resolution. Join us, Saturday, March 2nd from 7-10pm, for snacks, libations and an overall sense of purpose. The winning artwork from the P.O.P. exhibition will be on display through March 8th from 1pm -7pm each day. Open to the public. Lincoln Square Pottery Studio – Learning Center is located at 4150 N. Lincoln Ave. Chicago, IL. 60618. Street parking on Lincoln is free. Mieke Zuiderweg and Paul Schultz will be spearheading the event.
