The temperature's going up, school's about to be out for summer and the days are getting ever closer to Northcenter's annual summer bash, Ribfest Chicago. With the festival just around the corner, we're excited to share all the details with you and get the excitement going. One thing that brings everyone back to Ribfest every year is the food. Delicious BBQ is the main event, and this year, for Ribfest's Sweet & Smoky 16, we have a record 16 rib vendors, as well as eclectic chefs and stands serving up everything from octopus tacos to chocolate-covered bacon, veggie kebabs to made-to-order donuts. We're especially excited that so many restaurants and businesses from right here in Northcenter have become such an important part of this festival. From those who have been there since the beginning, such as Smokin' Woody's, to last year's powerhouse Audience Choice winner, Mrs. Murphy & Sons, to newcomers like ROCKS Northcenter and groundbreakers like Browntrout and Lincoln Square Lanes, we salute and celebrate your culinary prowess. The Northcenter Chamber of Commerce could not put on all the events, programs and networking opportunities that we do without the help of an amazing volunteer Board of Directors. This board is comprised of business owners, entrepreneurs and committed residents who have made an impact on the Northcenter business community. In this series, we will introduce you to them one by one, starting with our Chamber Board President, Michael Kane of Kane Insurance. You've probably seen Michael Kane at many Chamber events, from networking luncheons to golf outings, or in the neighborhood on his way to meet a client. The green-and-white Kane Insurance storefront has been a fixture along Lincoln Avenue for decades, and inside, Kane and his team serve as independent insurance brokers, working on behalf of clients to provide the best insurance solutions for any situation. Recently, Kane also became a leasing agent, helping Chicagoans find their perfect apartment or home. Read more

Chicago Craft Beer Week 2014, which lasts from May 15th-25th, features events all over the city highlighting local brewers. A full schedule can be found here, but we wanted to share a few of our picks that highlight local businesses and our three neighborhood craft breweries, Half Acre Beer Company, Begyle Brewing and Spiteful Brewing. Cheers! Read more

When Sean Sanders opened his acclaimed restaurant, Browntrout, in Northcenter five years ago, he hoped that in addition to great seasonal food, he could serve up lessons about local and sustainable eating to the community. "What I've realized is that everybody is pretty set in their ways," Sanders says. "The most effective way to create change in the food system is to teach children how to eat better." So that's just what he's doing. Beginning this month, Sanders is partnering with Coonley Elementary School in Northcenter to teach fourth-grade classes about local, sustainable and healthy food. One of the things we consistently find amazing about the Northcenter neighborhood is that there is something for everyone, right in your own backyard. If your something happens to be antiquing, then you’ll find your Heaven in Northcenter--and all in one block, no less! The 3800 block of North Lincoln Avenue is an antiquer’s paradise, with vintage furniture, art and accessories to appeal to collectors at all experience and budget levels. We poked around in a few shops to see what treasures they held inside. Read more
