Welcome to the heart of Chicago's north side!

The “heart of Chicago’s north side" has certainly grown since the 1870’s when the area was only accessible by the Chicago River and Little Fort Road (now known as Lincoln Avenue). Located 6 miles northwest of the loop, Northcenter is a vibrant and eclectic neighborhood providing a hub of commercial activity with a mix of retailers, restaurants, live entertainment and theaters, and service-oriented businesses. In fact, more traffic flows through the middle of Northcenter (where Lincoln Avenue, Irving Park Road and Damen Avenue meet) than most any intersection in Chicago. Drawing businesses that have remained in our community since the early 1900’s, the access and visibility from these arterial streets continues to attract new businesses to the Northcenter neighborhood.
Northcenter’s history is deeply rooted in European cultural influences that history can be seen in the architectural charm of the homes and buildings from the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Our neighborhood continues to grow and become more culturally diverse as new home and condo developments spring up throughout the neighborhood. While our neighborhood is experiencing an influx of younger families and professional singles, it also boasts a new senior complex under construction at Irving Park Road and Western Avenue with senior rental apartments, senior condos and a public park.
Northcenter has a lot to offer both residents and visitors. A night out in Northcenter can include:
-
taking in off beat comedy at the "Cornservatory" or Lincoln Lodge;
-
enjoying more traditional theater at American Theater Company or Breadline Theater;
-
dinner and live music ranging from country at Horseshoe to soulful blues and jazz at Katerina’s to current rock and pop at Martyrs';
-
enjoying the big game and great food with buddies at one of our sport bar and restaurants such as Brownstone, The Globe Pub or Celtic Crown;
-
to just a quiet evening dinner whether you’re in the mood for pizza, Italian, Irish fare, American bistro, a hearty steak, world class ribs, sushi, Mexican, Columbian and South American, traditional German fare, and more.
Families can find entertainment at one of our bowling alleys, three city parks, nearby library, nearby movie theater complex, or our charming Town Square. The Chamber also hosts free family and community events throughout the year.
Frequently referred to as one of “Chicago’s best kept secrets,” Northcenter has something to offer everyone, whether you’re just stopping by for a visit, or call Northcenter home.
