    The Northcenter Chamber of Commerce is seeking an individual passionate about event planning, community development and supporting small businesses to join our team part-time as an Office & Events Manager. Please see below for description and details of how to apply.

    Job Description – Office & Events Manager


    Reports to: Executive Director


    Based at: Northcenter Chamber of Commerce, 4054 N. Lincoln Ave., Chicago, IL


    Hours: 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., Monday-Thursday; including occasional evenings and weekends. Candidate must be able to work 2-3 evening/weekend events per month.


    Start Date: Immediate


    Job Objective: The Office & Events Manager will manage administrative office functions and member events / programs.


    Compensation: $15/hour; 20 hr/week


    Key responsibilities:


    Office Administration

    • Answer phone calls, take messages and forward as necessary

    • Answer general questions regarding membership, events, etc.

    • Make outbound phone calls to Chamber Membership and Board of Directors  

    • Review, respond to and forward general emails to staff as needed

    • Proofread emails, letters, and other documents as needed

    • Light clerical work including filing documents, organizing received mail and preparing office mailings.  

    • Update ChamberMaster (database) with membership and stakeholder information

    • Update events and set staff appointments on the chamber calendar

    • Track date / times and send reminders for committee and board meetings

    • Assist with the organization and maintenance of the office and meeting spaces



    • Upload bills to online bill-paying system

    • Identify and file Special Service Area (SSA) bills for payment

    • File bank statements and credit statements

    • Work with vendors to accept online payment


    Event & Program Management:

    • Assist with identifying potential new members and outreach to current and prospective Chamber members

    • Assist with monthly luncheon (9/year) program including tracking reservations, making outbound reminder calls and participant check-in at the event.

    • Assist with planning and management of a variety of Chamber events, including a Halloween trick-or-treat event, an Easter Eggstravaganza, Veterans’ Day observance, RestauranTour and the Summer Concert Series. To assist with these events, the candidate must be available the closest Saturday morning to Halloween, the closest Saturday morning to Easter, the second Saturday morning in December, the morning of November 11th and Wednesday evenings from after July 4th through the end of August.

    • Assist with planning, management and day-of operations for the Chamber’s largest event, Ribfest Chicago. The candidate must be available and willing to work entire festival weekend.

    • Position will include working 2-3 evenings per month and occasional weekends for events, meetings, etc.

    • Work with designers, writers, ad sales team and business owners and manage production of the Chamber’s annual Community Guide.


    Education & Work:

    • Associate or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or actively pursuing such a degree preferred

    • Experience with office administration and/or event planning a plus

    Computer Skills:

    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 2010 required

    • Must be familiar with or able to learn ChamberMaster software

    • Experience with email communication programs (e.g. Constant Contact) a plus
